What is the Canfit™ P&O 3-Axis carver?

The Canfit™ P&O 3-Axis carver has the ability to carve a wide variety of prosthetic and orthotic applications including AFOs, Spinals, Seats (smaller and simpler), Standing Shells (in modules), AKs, BKs, and Foam Covers.

The carving area is fully enclosed. All of the sensitive components are protected from dust and waste material, reducing the occurrence of machine malfunction and unnecessary maintenance. Being fully enclosed also gives the Canfit™ P&O 3-Axis carver the added bonus of safety. The operator is protected from all moving parts by an automatic locking mechanism. This safety mechanism keeps the main access door locked until the carver has completed carving and has stopped.

The carver carver has sub-millimeter accuracy. The carving pitch is selectable down to 0.5 mm, if desired, meaning that the tool will travel 0.5mm when the block rotates once, an indication of high surface quality and the ability to accurately carve steep curves.

With its large capacity, high-speed capabilities and extreme accuracy, production time is reduced to a minimum. The time it takes to carve your shape depends on the size of the patient and the complexity of the design. Below is a list of average times to carve smooth shapes:

  • AFO - 20 minutes
  • KAFO - 25 minutes
  • Transfemoral prosthesis - 12 minutes
  • Transtibial prosthesis - 9 minutes
  • Seats (simplified) - 30 minutes
  • Spinals (TLSO) - 22 minutes

How does the Canfit™ P&O 3-Axis Carver work?

  1. After designing your shape, export the file from Canfit™ P&O Design to Canfit™ VisualCAM™.
  2. Load the design file in Canfit™ VisualCAM™ in the Carver computer
  3. Select a block (new or used)
  4. Move the shape within the block using the Canfit™ VisualCAM™ software. The software will show you if the shape fits or not
  5. Once you have your shape adjusted to fit within the block, create a carve file, and send it to the carver.
  6. Click on the start button
  7. Once the carving is complete, remove mandrel from carver and then remove the carved shape
